Letters from America
Saturday 16 June 2018
Well I was a sorry lot this week. I had a bad flu and lay in bed almost the entire time. It’s times like this past week I miss my kittens especially (now in kitten heaven), they were always such sweet company if you were laid low.
I did watch some television on my laptop though, propped up in bed. As some of you know I don’t own an actual television (and haven’t owned one my entire adult life). I finally got to see the BBC series Wolf Hall which was every bit as excellent as I had heard (and I’d loved the book). I also watched some of Anthony Bourdain’s travel and food diaries. So it’s been a quiet week for me. The only thing that didn’t slow down was the rate at which I am obliged to feed the lorikeets. If they know I am home they come and peer in at the windows and gently tap with their beaks at the glass doors. They are absolutely relentless.
Your glamorous aunt

Trying not to feel sorry for myself…

Bring Up The Bodies, the sequel to Wolf Hall, is also a good read MG, if you are still recuperating. I’m waiting for the third book, The Mirror and the Light, but Hilary seems to have stalled… Which is encouraging as I too stall with projects so can sympathise! Metaphorical flowers have been sent to help you feel less sorry for yourself… x

Yes I bought Bringing up the Bodies and put it somewhere “safe” when I was downsizing my bookshelves – so now it’s in a storage box but I don’t know which one! There is still one secondhand bookshop left in Kings Cross (there used to be half a dozen before gentrification and rent increases), so I think I will just have to get another copy. Yes I think books like that might fairly take 10 years to write…
Thank you so much for the virtual flowers. I can honestly say this morning is the first morning I have jumped out of bed in a week, still with symptoms but feeling like myself finally. xx

Sorry to hear you down and out for the week not enjoyable. Hope you are feeling better now. Did you have a flue shot beforehand? Lots of love TR 😍

Dear TR, Yes I had the option of the flu shot when I visited the GP and I didn’t take it, thinking how healthy I am I will be OK. Live and learn! This one has been a shocker. Thank you for the lots of love, it’s much appreciated. xx

Dear MG, so sorry to hear you have been under the weather. Wolf Hall was a fabulous read and so was the next one. It’s a pity it won’t end well for Thomas. I only read books on my iPad now, mainly because I don’t need my glasses. I am also sorry that I dropped off the radar, but hopefully I will be back soon. I hope you enjoy this beautiful sunshine, out of the wind, in your eyrie today.

For Thomas the inevitable is brilliantly foreshadowed. Yes I am still in the eyrie mobbed by lorikeets who think it is wonderful I am stuck at home available for a round the clock feeding fest. xx
